Let's Work Together
Social change is a long haul effort: full of uncertainty and demanding flexibility and responsiveness. For this reason, I prefer to have a close and long term relationship with a small number of organisations. I work alongside you to:
- Develop a shared strategy for your advocacy work,
- Design an advocacy model that works for your organisation
- Develop or refine your political engagement strategy
- Develop the skills and confidence of your team
- Create and implement an effective advocacy campaign
- Identify opportunities to work in alliance with others.
four ways we can work together for social change
1. Strategy advice and facilitation
I design and facilitate processes that will help you and your team to design your advocacy framework and grassroots engagement. I can share examples of different models and the successes they've achieved, to help you contemplate the range of possibilities for achieving social change.
I facilitate workshops that consider options and achieve clear goals and decisions. I can design processes that engage those who need to have a say in shaping your advocacy approach and campaign strategy.
I work alongside you as you take the steps needed to implement an advocacy framework, including engaging relevant internal and external stakeholders, and building internal capability and capacity.

2. Campaign Coaching
I design and facilitate processes to help you develop an effective campaign strategy, while modelling techniques for campaign planning. Tools include power mapping, developing leadership, message framing, considering allies and influencers, developing a theory of change, and critical path analysis. I establish mechanisms for regular progress checks as the campaign progresses, help you review tactics, and plan for contingencies. I help you consider strategic opportunities as the campaign evolves, and can be on hand to help you seize campaign moments. If you already have a campaign underway, or recently completed one, I can work with you to conduct a "health check," to identify opportunities for improvement. |
3. Mentoring of Key Staff
Leadership involves accepting responsibility for enabling others to achieve shared purpose, in the face of uncertainty. Advocacy and campaigning involves nudging people and organisations out of their comfort zone, and the ability to operate effectively in changing circumstances.
Are you a leader inside an organisation, responsible for shifting the way the organisation creates social change? I can act as a sounding board for your ideas, a testing place for your proposed strategies, and a source of advice and guidance as you grapple with the inherent uncertainty and changing circumstances of your advocacy work. I will help you find perspective, challenge your thinking and ask you questions to help you develop solutions.
4. Developing and Facilitating Training for Staff and Volunteers
I provide tailored training on advocacy, political engagement, campaigning and community organising. I can help you identify the specific skills needed in your staff and volunteers. Together, we can develop a training program that will match your advocacy strategy and timing.
I can help you map a leadership and development pathway for your grassroots supporters. I can develop a training program that we can roll out together, or coach you to deliver directly to your volunteers.

Have me as Part of your Team
Because advocacy and campaigning inherently involves uncertainty, some organisations prefer to engage me on a retainer basis. A retainer model provides flexibility so we can best meet the emerging needs of your organisation or the campaign. It means I come to better understand the inner workings of your organisation, and provide tailored support you as you develop your advocacy approach and campaign. |
How else can I help you create social change?
I can also provide tailored support to help you build alliances, make the most of your investments in conference attendance, developing communities of practice, or debrief and reflect on recently completed advocacy efforts.
Connect with me and we can have a chat. If I can't help with what you need, I may be able to refer you to someone who can help.
